‘Break costs him 3 million euros’

After the abuse of his girlfriend Jaimie Vaes, Lil Kleine receives a financial blow from Sony Music. The record label ends their collaboration. “That will cost him three million euros.”

Sony Music got a lot of shit over it for a week, because the record label did not want to say anything about the continuing violence by Lil Kleine. Late last night, around 10:30 pm, the bullet went through the church: Sony came out with a short statement that allegedly costs the rapper 3 million euros.

Sony dumps Lil Kleine

What is the statement? “Sony Music takes the allegations against Lil Kleine very seriously and in no way tolerates the behavior shown in the images circulating on social media. This seriously conflicts with our company values. Sony Music (…) has decided to end the working relationship with Lil Kleine.”

Oops, and that collaboration had yet to begin. Lil Kleine’s album that has just been released, Ibiza Stories, is still covered by his old record label Top Notch. He has already stopped all promotion around the album. “We have stopped everything around Lil Kleine on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.”

Expensive joke

Albert Verlinde states in Shownieuws that this will cost Lil Kleine a lot of money. “He has said himself that he has received an advance of 3 million. Frankly, that seems strong to me that you get an advance of 3 million. I think it’s more like a kind of 3 million guarantee for the coming years.”

He is not going to get that 3 million, Albert expects. “I think that’s the reason, because everyone said, ‘Why is Sony responding so late?!’ Everyone was early. At Madame Tussauds he went straight into the melting furnaces and this took a very long time. It’s a big company and they’ve put a lot of lawyers on it, like, ‘Can we get out of the contract?’”

‘Everything is sorted’

Sony will first have checked how much pain such a break is financially, according to Albert. “From: ‘If we get out of the contract, will it cost us money or will we get the money back?’ I think it’s all sorted out and that’s why they dare to say this on this Sunday evening.”

There will be a clause in the contract about good behavior, he thinks. “I think so, because if you hit the brand… It’s the Dutch branch, but it does come under Sony, which is big in America. They really don’t like this kind of behavior there.”

Manager didn’t know anything

It’s tough news, says Albert. “We immediately contacted Lil Kleine’s spokesperson, who needed to hear from us! He said: ‘No, what?’ He first said: ‘Why are you calling on Sunday evening?!’ “Well, uhh, Sony’s press release.” And he didn’t know that yet.”

“It is of course unimaginable what happens here in a week. Last Sunday, those images came out of the abuse of Jaimie Vaes. I have to say of some people at this table ‘the alleged abuse of Jaimie Vaes’, but the images did not lie. If you see what happens in one week: Spotify removes it from the playlist, a sponsor withdraws and now this.”

“It’s been an incredibly expensive week for Lil Kleine and I don’t think the end is in sight.”
