Bread and Games: a week of tingling fingers after an evening of tug of war

In a brand new episode of Bread and Games, reporter Thomas Brood plunges into the world of tug of war. He trains one evening with Touwtrekvereniging Monnickendam. “I think I’m a natural talent”, Brood thinks at the start of the training.

The tug of war is done on special shoes so that you have more grip. Our reporter also gets a special shirt and a sturdy belt. Then the training really starts. It soon becomes more difficult for the reporter. He especially struggles with posture. The body must remain stretched and you push off with your legs. “That sounds easy”, Brood says with a grim face during the tug of war.

After several matches without a single win, Brood has to conclude the following. “What a painful evening. I thought it would be so easy,” said the exhausted reporter.

To make matters worse, the sports reporter still has tingling fingers for days after an evening of tug of war. “That’s not right,” they respond at TTV Monnickendam. His tug-of-war technique can therefore still be improved.
