Brazilians, Uruguayans and Chileans generate a tourism and shopping boom

“Land transport and the crossing to Chile (Ndr: Cristo Redentor pass) is complicated, which is still closed due to snowfall, which generates problems when it comes to guaranteeing circulation, but we are very good with tourism”, says the former deputy from Mendoza louis petri, one of the candidates for governor in 2023.

Mendoza has record snowfall, and the woods would have recovered 2017 attendance. And the province is experiencing the effect of the return of foreign tourism, with a large Chilean public, and some 300 thousand Brazilians that are expected in Argentina for the entire season. “The lunches in the wineries are full every day”,

Same effect is experienced in Bariloche. “I was wondering, knowing that the holidays have started in Buenos Aires, where are we going to put so many people. Because the city of Bariloche is very full. There are several provinces that are already on vacation and that brought a lot of people, added to the Brazilians who returned after 2 years of drought”says the mayor Gustavo Gennuso.

“The city welcomes them very well because if they come looking for snow it has been snowing for several days, intermittently so you can walk, it is a good season with many people”, insisted Gennuso in The Trigger (Delta 90.3).

“Here there are foreigners from many places and I think they are benefited by the change and those who are Latin American are used to negotiating in the informal market, because many times European foreigners work with the card and the exchange is the official one, but Brazilians go to change to other places. Y a good lunch or dinner are very cheap compared to other countries, and the same goes for giftsthis helps a lot in a very difficult moment in the economy of our country”, details the mayor of Bariloche, about the effect that goes beyond tourism and is also evident in local purchases, where the “give me two” prevails.

argentina foreign purchases

Something that is repeated in Buenos Aires and other border points with Uruguay. The Mercosur partners cross the border and the river, even paying the cost of the boat, to do their shopping in the Argentine capital: in June they entered the country 50,000 Uruguayan tourists and 77,000 “excursionists”, who do not stay and come for the day to do shopping.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, 16.5% of all tourists who entered the country between January 1 and June 30 came from Uruguay. It is the second country from where more tourists arrive to Argentina, surpassed only by Brazil. Some 5,000 Uruguayans arrived in June through Colonia; 4,000 made it across the Paysandú bridge; through Fray Bentos another 3,700; and by Salto the remaining 2,400. In Buquebus from Montevideo some 1,620 tourists crossed.

“Tourism to Argentina is full, taking advantage of the exchange rate. Many even go in their own vehicles on the road to take advantage of an exchange rate difference that today favors us”, points out Rowing MonzeglioUndersecretary of Uruguayan Tourism.
