The Seleçao will wear completely black for the first time in its history, in a CBF initiative against racism
Brazil will play in black the first part of the friendly against Guinea next Saturday at the RCDE Stadium
For the first time in its 109-year history, the Brazilian team will play a game wearing a black shirt and pants. The unprecedented event will take place this Saturday in the first half of the friendly that the Seleçao will play against Guinea at the RCDE Stadium, in Cornellà-El Prat, since, after the break, the Brazilians will return with their traditional yellow clothing.
The color change is an initiative of the Confederaçao Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) that is part of the campaign against racism that is being carried out. The highest body of Brazilian soccer had already reported that it wanted the Seleçao’s first match after the attacks suffered by Vinicius Jr. in Mestalla to serve as a platform against racial intolerance inside and outside sports venues.
For ednaldo rodriguesthe first Afro-descendant to become president of the CBF, the fight against racism “is a priority issue in the entity” and stresses that football has the power to open paths that promote tolerance and respect among people.
“We are the only soccer federation in the world that has created a device that provides for the loss of points for acts of racism”underlines the Brazilian leader.
The Brazilian team played its first game in 1914 dressed in white shirts and pants. It was in 1952, when he adapted the traditional horsemanship with a yellow shirt and blue pants. And six years later, in the 1958 World Cup final in Sweden, when Brazil beat the hosts and win their first title, he wore the blue jersey, which later became his reserve colour.
