Brazil has decided to ban the sale of iPhones without a charger.
The country’s Ministry of Justice said on Tuesday that it had imposed a fine of more than 2 million dollars on Apple.
According to the Brazilian Consumer Agency, Apple’s decision to sell new iPhones without a charger discriminates against consumers because the product is imperfect.
Apple plans to appeal the matter and continue negotiations with the Brazilian authorities.
– We are sure that our customers are aware of the different options for charging and connecting their devices, Apple commented.
Brazil announced the sales ban and fine a day before Apple announced its new iPhone 14, 14 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra devices.
Brazil has fined Apple before. Apple stopped putting chargers in iPhone boxes when it announced the iPhone 12 model in 2020.
The decision has been justified, among other things, on environmental grounds.
