Torrential rains that have been plaguing the Brazilian state of Pernambuco since Tuesday have claimed the lives of at least 34 people, according to authorities. By far the most victims were Saturday when landslides in various parts of the state in northeastern Brazil killed a total of 29 inhabitants.
