Braunschweig gets the first point of the season against Fortuna Düsseldorf

Newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig has fought for the first point in the fifth attempt in the second Bundesliga – and even scored goals.

The 2-2 (0-0) against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday was clear progress after four defeats in a row. Eintracht left the bottom of the table for at least one night, Düsseldorf are three games without a win.

Braunschweig tried hard from the start for their first goal of the season, but Fortuna goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier deflected a shot from Jan-Hendrik Marx hard onto the crossbar (8′). From then on, the guests sorted themselves out better, they took control of the ball and the game in front of 17,471 spectators on Hamburger Straße until the break.

After 416 minutes, Braunschweig’s wait was over: Robin Krausse (57th) pushed a deflected cross over the line at the second post. Ao Tanaka should have equalized in return (58′), Nicolas Gavory did that with a brilliant left-footed shot (61′).

Immanuel Pherai and Luc Ihorst hit the post and crossbar for Braunschweig within a few seconds (64′), Eintracht’s deserved 2-1 win through Anton Donkor (70′) was countered by Marcel Sobottka (72′).
