Brasserie Nicolette van Dam completely slammed: ‘So dirty!’

Nicolette van Dam’s brasserie is completely slammed in the new podcast De Mediameiden. The main criticism concerns hygiene. “I thought it was very dirty and didn’t need those fries anymore!”

Nicolette van Dam and her brother run a brasserie in Amsterdam South where many people go to see and be seen: Brasserie Van Dam. Tamar Bot and Fanny van de Reijt, the TV daughters of Gijs Groenteman, went there for lunch and report on it in their new podcast The Media Girls† And it was all quite disappointing.

‘Looks like Appie!’

Tamar and Fanny ordered a salmon tartare, a niçoise salad and a portion of fries. That salmon tartare, in particular, looked nothing like it, Fanny says. “It was a salmon tartare with some avocado and some kind of naughty cheese cracker in it too.”

Yummy? Meh, said Fanny. “I really noticed… Do you know those trays of salmon that you can buy at Albert Heijn? Those cubes of salmon? It really looked like they had just tossed that bowl of salmon on that plate so barkingly and sprinkled a bit of avocado over it. That was not a salmon tartare that was firmly put together.”

very medium

Sloppy, Tamar agrees. “No and it wasn’t put on the plate with a cooking ring either. It was a bit on there, nonchalantly.”

Fanny: “It was a very small portion.”

And that salad niçoise, was that what? “That salad was also medium to be honest,” Tamar says. “It was a bit all on top of each other, there was not really a nice dressing, there were almost no vegetables in it.”

‘Disgusting!’

However, the low point was the fries. Tamar: “What I personally thought was very bad: we had ordered one portion of fries to share with each other and then you got those fries in a bowl and then there was a small bowl with a sort of yellowish sauce. I estimate it was curry mayonnaise.”

She continues: “I got a fries, I put it in that sauce and the moment those fries hit that sauce, I see a different color underneath. So the top layer of that sauce was, so to speak, darker than the sauce itself.”

Fanny: “Damn it!”

‘So dirty!’

Tamar continues: “Yes, I thought that was so bad. It was also on a Saturday, it was very very busy. I thought: they just put 50 containers of that sauce there in the morning and not in the fridge. Maybe also with a dirty foil over it that it has stuck to a bit.”

“And then I sit and eat that and I didn’t like the color difference at all. I thought it was very dirty and didn’t need those fries anymore. That was actually a shame, because we didn’t have enough.”

Gall & Gall

At the end of lunch Nicolette walked in herself, Fanny continues. “Suddenly she came in and she was like, ‘Yeah, I just had to go to the Gall & Gall.’ Then I also thought: huh? We just ordered very expensive champagne, does it just come from the Gall & Gall?”

Tamar: “Yes, I thought that was strange too.”

No, the ladies do not really recommend Brasserie Van Dam. “The entourage was not that bad, the bill and the hangover were unfortunately disappointing,” Tamar concludes.
