Brasserie Chapeau – velvety thing

When entering this new brasserie on Kaiserdamm, the first thing that strikes you is the extremely tasteful interior.

Comfortable velvet armchairs in a bold beige – bold because of the risk of stains – and velvet benches invite you to sit at large, bare wooden tables. Huge ceiling lamps immerse the large corner restaurant in comfortable light. Only the neon lighting of the associated delicatessen should be dimmed a little in the evening.

The menu does not do justice to the name brasserie – French classics such as onion soup, steak frites or fois gras are missing. As a starter we choose the “scapegoat” salad with caramelized goat cheese, dates and nuts (12.90 euros). The dressing on the mixed leaf salad perfectly supports the sweet and sour note. A slice of bread would have been nice, but the waiter must have forgotten it.

The advertised steak variations were no longer available on this Sunday evening. What a pity! A cheeseburger (14.50 euros) with handmade fries was prepared in the chic open kitchen.

A little more zing than the jalapenos on top would have been nice. The small tarte au citron (5.90 euros) at the end was really French and delicious.
