From the point of view of the Greens in Brandenburg, the high demand for the 9-euro ticket requires a seamless connection solution with a permanently inexpensive nationwide local transport ticket.

“We cannot wait for an evaluation in November. Such a ticket can be financed, for example by reducing climate-damaging subsidies, above all the company car privilege. That’s fair and good for the climate,” said the green state chairwoman Julia Schmidt of the German Press Agency.

According to the Association of German Transport Companies, 38 million 9-euro tickets have been sold nationwide since the start of sales at the end of May up to and including today. In addition, according to the information, there were around ten million subscribers who automatically received the discounted ticket every month.

The great demand for the ticket has brought two realizations for the Green Country Manager. On the one hand, people use the offer if it is cheap. “But what the past few months in Brandenburg have also shown is that all inexpensive local transport is useless if there are no trains and no buses. So we have to expand buses and trains faster.”

Connection offers for the 9-euro tickets are being discussed in order to relieve passengers of energy costs and to provide incentives for switching to public transport. Among other things, there are suggestions for a 365-euro annual ticket and monthly tickets for 29 or 69 euros.

The Brandenburg Ministry of Transport has asked the federal government for more support for local rail transport. Secretary of State for Transport Rainer Genilke (CDU) had said about a possible follow-up offer for the 9-euro tickets: “One thing is clear: whoever orders, pays. The federal government must commit to financing a follow-up offer as well.”
