Brandenburg’s transport minister wants to double the share of cycling by 2030. However, the ADFC cycling club complains that there are no concrete measures.
35 cycle paths will be newly built or renovated by the end of next year. Cost: 90 million euros. “We will make Brandenburg a cycling country,” promises Minister of Transport Guido Beermann (CDU).
In the next seven years, the “enthusiastic pedestrian” Beermann wants to double the use of bicycles from 11 to 20 percent of all traffic.
But: Here an Elbe cycle path, there an Oder cycle path, there cycle routes in the city – that’s not enough for the traffic turnaround. Brandenburg is therefore planning a continuous network of cycle paths for the entire state. Upper and middle centers should be connected, train stations connected, bike parking garages built.
However, the new cycling strategy should not be fully implemented until 2045.
“There are no concrete measures,” complains the ADFC cycling club. “The new strategy does not yet build a meter of cycle path. We should be a lot further!”
