The sun shone during the day. As dusk fell, the Christmas tree finally shone and immersed Pariser Platz in the Advent mood.

The two Berlin heroes Helena Luise Glatthaar (22) and Jochen Wendland (38) snapped on the 15 meter high Nordmann fir in front of the Brandenburg Gate at exactly 4:10 p.m. on Sunday. At the same time, the two volunteers accepted two checks for their two aid projects.

Energy supplier lekker donated 5,000 euros each to the Malteser family support service and to the association “Freunde elderly people”.

In order to save energy, this year “only” 15,000 LEDs will provide the Advent light. Last year it was 30,000. That doesn’t detract from the mood. “I’m a bit proud to be able to turn on the light,” says Helena.

Jochen brought several relatives with him. “We are a very large family, and of course we also celebrate Christmas with a large group.”
