Brand Bloomingdale also causes great damage to neighbors: “We are not insured”

Owners of the trampoline park located next to Bloomingdale are shocked. The couple was sleeping in a wooden shack right next to the blaze and woke up to the stench of the smoke. “It was a nightmare,” says an upset Sam Zadeh. “I still can’t believe it.” According to her partner and co-owner Roetert van Dijk, the fire was immense. “It was a vortex of fire ten meters high.”

A lady who spent the night in a beach house, about a hundred meters away, also looks at the smoking ruins in disbelief. “We had to get out of the beach houses,” she says. “Because there was a danger that the wind would shift. We saw towering flames. The tinkling of windows that broke. It is terrible for the people who work here, it is their life’s work. It was a beautiful beach bar. This is very sad.”

Neighbors are also damaged

After a broken night, the couple from the neighboring trampoline park assess the damage. “We were still trying to save the trampolines,” says owner Sam as tears stream down her cheeks. “But we had to leave the fire brigade. From a distance you watch how everything is destroyed. You feel so powerless. You just can’t do anything.”

The trampolines have all become unusable due to the fire. It will probably take at least a month before the park can open again. Owner Van Dijk estimates the damage at around thirty to forty thousand euros, even though the couple is not insured. “We can use all the help,” says van Dijk. “Certainly financially. Maybe we will start a crowdfunding. We have no idea yet.”

“Desolate, to cry this. Another piece of nostalgia gone”

regular visitor to Bloomingdale

While smoke is still rising from the ruins this morning and the last flames are still raging here and there, local residents and regular guests come and go to take a look. “I ate here yesterday,” says a young lady who is celebrating her holiday here. “Very sorry to see this.” An older couple, who regularly visited the beach bar, is shocked. “Desolate, to cry this,” said the husband of the couple. “Another piece of nostalgia gone.” His wife adds: “Terrible for the people who work there. Finally the weather is nice and then you get this!”
