Dutch cyclists Lucinda Brand and Shirin van Anrooij have won the first stage of the Tour of Spain for women with Trek-Segafredo. It was a team time trial over 19.9 kilometers in Marina de Cudeyo. Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini pushed her wheel across the finish line first of the team and received the red leader’s jersey.
Trek clocked 23.31 minutes and was 6 seconds faster than Team BikeExchange (23.37). FDJ set the third time (23.42). Team SD Worx, with Demi Vollering, finished fourth (23.54) and Movistar, the team of defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten, finished fifth in 23.56.
Van Vleuten will start the second stage on Thursday with a 25 seconds behind Longo Borghini, a tough mountain stage with five climbs.
