The “Brose Bamberg” basketball players will be given a new name and a new logo on July 1st. This week it is not the only change in Upper Franconia’s currently only basketball Bundesliga team.
New logo, new name in the basketball Bundesliga: Bamberg Baskets is the name of Upper Franconia’s currently only Bundesliga team from July 1st. The nine-time German champions and Bundesliga club from Bamberg are starting the 2023/2024 season after seven years with a new name and a modernized logo. The name of the former financial sponsor and shareholder Brose, on the other hand, disappears from the club name.
The logo has been modernized without changing the distinctive ball and thus the recognition factor. The club colors remain red and white. At the beginning of the year, Brose CEO Michael Stoschek announced that he would sell his shares in the basketball club as the sole shareholder. As a result, the Bundesliga season was disappointing for Upper Franconia – they finished tenth and missed the play-offs.
Renaming was in the course of share sale from Brose required
The renaming became necessary because the Brose Group – in addition to selling the company shares – had also released the naming rights in order to give Bamberger Basketball GmbH the opportunity to find a new naming sponsor. As long as this process is ongoing, it is contractually stipulated that the Brose Group, as the main sponsor, determines the team name.
“Since there have already been enough changes in the club, the name and logo must show continuity,” said Michael Stoschek, chairman of the Brose shareholders’ meeting, in a club statement. “For this reason I decided on the name ‘Bamberg Baskets’, because on the one hand the focus is on the city and on the other hand our sport is clearly named.”
It’s not the only change for the Baskets this week. It was also recently announced that the Captain Christian Sengfelder surprisingly canceled his contract has. In addition, Bamberg have announced the signings of Malik Johnson and Filip Stanic.
