0:3 – a smooth defeat. The third bankruptcy of the season does not come at a good time for the Berlin Volleys.
The Berlin Volleys didn’t have to look far for the reasons for the sporting disaster at SVG Lüneburg. “We missed the last step. In the important moments we didn’t get the points”, the Slovenian middle blocker Saso Stalekar analyzed the game on Saturday. It is obvious that the German volleyball champions will have problems in this form to move into the playoffs as the first in the Bundesliga intermediate round.
The 0: 3 (21:25, 24:25, 21:25) in Lüneburg is also the worst possible start to a week with two other extremely difficult tasks for the Berliners. Not only did the side botch their dress rehearsal for Wednesday’s home game against Turkish champions Ziraat Bank Ankara in a Champions League quarter-finals contest. In the second round match against VfB Friedrichshafen on Sunday, too, the pressure to win is enormous. “We’ll try to redeem ourselves in the next few games,” Stalekar promised.
The defeat in front of 2400 spectators was the third overall for the BR Volleys in the 18th Bundesliga game this season. It is striking that the team showed their dark side for the second time immediately after an impressive performance.
In mid-January, the sovereign 3-0 win at Hebar Pazardzhik in Bulgaria in the Bundesliga was followed by a 3-0 loss at the Grizzlies Giesen in the Bundesliga. The strong start to the intermediate round with the 3-0 win over Düren was followed by Lüneburg’s bankruptcy.
“We just didn’t find our game,” Stalekar said. Volleys player Johannes Tille went into detail: “We couldn’t use the serve to create the pressure that is needed against such an opponent.”
