The Berlin Volleys have made a successful start to the second half of the Bundesliga volleyball season. The German champions clearly won the Volleys Herrsching on Wednesday in Munich’s Audi Dome 3-0 (25:22, 25:19, 25:17).
Coach Cédric Énard’s team remained unbeaten in their ninth game of the season and leads the table with the maximum haul of 27 points. Timothée Carle with 13 and Ruben Schott with 12 points were the winner’s most successful attackers.
The Herrschingers were missing player James Shaw, who was ill with the flu. He was represented by Severin Brandt, who was only 18 years old. Nevertheless, the BR Volleys, who started with the best line-up, initially had trouble gaining greater advantages.
It was mainly thanks to the powerful outside attacker Carle that the guests won the first round, which had been largely balanced for a long time. In the end, Schott used the third set point.
With good serves, Frenchman Carle was also instrumental in the fact that the Berliners were able to break away in the second set after a 19:17 lead to 23:17.
In the third round, too, the BR Volleys initially played anything but confidently. A block against Anton Brehme gave Herrsching a 16:15 lead for the second technical time-out.
Three aces in a row from Brehme to 22:17 brought the Berliners back on course. After that, the morale of Herrschinger was broken, the favorite from the capital finally celebrated a befitting victory.
