Boygenius have released another single from their debut LP THE RECORD with “Not Strong Enough”. After “True Blue”, “Emily I’m Sorry” and “$20” it is already the fourth release from the album, which will be released on March 31st.

In contrast to the three predecessors, “Not Strong Enough” comes with a music video. Starting as a road trip, the DIY clip quickly develops into a small feel-good story and accompanies the three members on a day off, including to the amusement park, the museum and hiking.

According to a press release, the song is about “paradoxical experiences with self-loathing while having a God complex”. For Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, the record is the next step up from 2018’s self-titled EP, which marked the indie group’s debut release. When it was created, they placed great emphasis on the participation of women in production. The band name is also an allusion to the male domain of indie rock and the music industry in general. When they formed in 2018, Boygenius reacted to the artificially longed-for rivalry between them, as they were often compared to each other as “women of rock”.

Bridgers, Dacus and Baker achieved great fame in the indie scene through their solo projects even before their joint EP. With Bridgers’ PUNISHER 2020, Dacus’ HOME VIDEO 2021, and Baker’s LITTLE OBLIVIONS from the same year, they released their latest solo albums.
