THEn a world that tends towards inclusivenessappear every day new world and national days Of every kind. Some serve to raise awareness of necessary issues (health, environment, rights). Others, however, so that at least once a year we are reminded of endangered animals or disused professions. Then there are days like today 3 October: Boyfriend Day 2023or the Boyfriend’s Day (at least in the US).

It’s all true. Today in the United States of America it is the Boyfriend Day 2023. As stated on the site National Day Calendar – which brings together all the meanings of American national days – this is a day that has a specific purpose. «This day recognizes the significant other in your life. Like special days for family members, this day also pays special attention to the engaged couples in our lives».

And again «Whether the relationship is new or consolidated, engaged couples give a unique meaning to our lives. From romantic evenings to date nights and adventure, every relationship develops over time. Every year you build the relationship with new memories and experiences».

It’s Boyfriend Day: «Celebrate your boyfriend all day»

The story of Boyfriend Day (3 October) continues with an attempt to explain what a healthy relationship should be like. «What makes your boyfriend really special? Like a good friend, a guy supports your dreams and ambitions. Together you are a team. Often there is an inexplicable attraction. Does his character make you want to be a better person? We describe our bad boys with words like “energetic,” “creative,” “loving,” and “kind.” Maybe your boyfriend is a bad boy or a handsome geek. But it doesn’t matter what kind it is: celebrate it all day long.”

The text continues with the invitation to do “something nice” for your boyfriend, whether it is “surprise him with a romantic getaway to a place he told you about” or “take him to see a film of his choice”. And then a final warning: share images and videos of this whole mix of targeted and thoughtful attention on social media, using the hashtag #NationalBoyfriendDay.

Boyfriend Day is above all a media phenomenon

National Boyfriend Day has become a calendar date thanks to social media. In fact, many teenagers use this day to publish images together with their boyfriend, to tell part of their daily life.

It is, of course, about a phenomenon especially mediaborn in response to Girlfriend Day (August 1). A celebration born as a promotional initiative around the launch of the book Girlfriends Getaway, written by Kathleen Laing and Elizabeth Butterfield (2002). In the name of extreme inclusiveness, here is the response of the engaged couples. And yet another opportunity to propose advertising campaigns or follow trending hashtags.
