Boy George says Madonna is ‘too full of herself’

Boy George has released his memoir, Karma: The Definitive Autobiography. In the work he not only talks in detail about himself, but also about special encounters in his career. Madonna also plays a role in his work.

Two lousy meetings

He lets his readers know about the first meeting with her: “Here Madonna claims that she met me and I was bitchy.” However, there is no classification of the situation on his part at this point. In another excerpt from Boy George’s work, which is available to People, he shares his thoughts on another (quasi-) encounter with the “Like A Virgin” singer at the opening of the New York club Palladium: “Madonna came with Sean Penn [der Schauspieler und die Sängerin waren zwischenzeitlich ein Paar] and pretended she didn’t see me.”

In his opinion, Madonna was just “too full of herself.” That’s why she wouldn’t even talk about him – she only did so once when she said: “Boy George was mean to me in the ’80s, and he still is Mean.” The musician justifies himself in his book by saying that he “didn’t really have the opportunity” to be really mean to Madonna. In this respect, it is probably a case of statement against statement.

Madonna has no sense of humor?

Nonetheless, Boy George makes it clear in his memoir that he would actually like “some” of Madonna’s songs. Although he also notes that she might take offense at his less than favorable comments because, “I have a sense of humor, I don’t think Madonna does, despite the clothes she wears.”

But even after this swipe, he wants to use his book to spread hope that the two stars could perhaps become “friends” over time.

Boy George didn’t have fun meeting Janet Jackson either

Madonna isn’t the only celebrity name to be mentioned in a critical way in the autobiography. At the beginning of January 2024 it emerged that he had also written about meeting Janet Jackson and described her as “unfriendly”. The singer allegedly ignored him when they were standing together backstage at a taping of a variety show. When they finally started talking and Jackson explained that she hadn’t recognized him at first, he said, “‘Are you saying you would have been nice to me if you had known who I was?’ We separated on unpleasant terms.”
