The cover of Boy George’s new single ‘Religion’ resembles Kylie Minogue’s TENSION album.
Boy George has explained the cover art for his new single ‘Religion’. The design is based on Kylie Minogue’s album TENSION, which was released last year.
Boy George: Quick-witted when asked
Like the Australian singer, Boy George placed a greenish photo of himself in front of an orange-yellow gradient. He only swapped the placement of the artist’s name and the title of the work: While Kylie Minogue’s name can be seen below, Boy George presents the “Religion” title there in angular font. His name is emblazoned at the top of the cover. After the song was released a few days ago and the similarities in the covers were noticed, criticism became louder. Boy George dismissed this on X (formerly Twitter). “I recycle everything. This is trending right now. Even fashion notices it?” wrote the Culture Club frontman. His tweet was in response to a fan’s question about why exactly he was paying tribute to Kylie Minogue’s artwork.
To other users who posted the two almost identical covers side by side and called him “scum” and an “asshole,” he triumphantly replied: “Or total genius!”
Single appeared for the first time in the audio book for the biography
Boy George hasn’t just been making sharp comments on social media lately. In his new autobiography “Karma,” published in December 2023, he doesn’t hold back and takes shots at Madonna and Janet Jackson, among others. The new single “Religion” is even related to the book: Before it was available on streaming services, it appeared in the audio book for Karma. A second new song is also included: “Suddenly I’m Wiser”. This has not yet been officially published.
