Boxing trainer icon Wegner: Complaining “not my nature”

Boxing trainer Ulli Wegner is on the mend after his many hospital stays. “I can’t complain. That’s not my nature either,” said the 81-year-old of the “German Press Agency”.

“I try to train every day, that will come. It’s just a muscle weakness because I’ve been lying down for so long,” added the Berliner.

Wegner suffered a femoral neck fracture in a fall on New Year’s Eve in early 2022, which required surgery. In 2019, the ex-coach had already broken his left thigh. A tumor was removed during the intestinal operation at the end of last year. He’s getting better and better at “running,” he said.

In the past few days, Wegner, who helped boxers like Arthur Abraham, Sven Ottke and Marco Huck to great success, appeared on the island of Usedom to support recreational fighters in a boxing camp. A sports hall in the city of Usedom bears the name of Wegner.
