Heavyweight boxer Andy Ruiz is in a legal battle with his former partner Julia Lemus with, news TMZ.
Lemus applied for a restraining order against the boxer at the beginning of April. The court granted a temporary restraining order, according to which Ruiz cannot come within 100 meters of Lemus. Lemus also got custody of the couple’s two children.
Lemus filed for a restraining order in San Diego on April 6, alleging that Ruiz sexually abused and physically and emotionally abused her.
In his petition for a restraining order, Lemus also alleged that Ruiz physically and emotionally abused the couple’s two children.
– He made me feel like I had to walk on eggshells around him, Lemus said in the documents, according to TMZ.
Lemus also accused Ruiz of abusing alcohol and drugs, causing her to fear for her life and the safety of her children.
In his application, 26-year-old Lemus described several incidents in which he claimed to have abused Ruiz. According to TMZ, the application states that Ruiz assaulted Lemus for the first time in 2019, when the boxer had defeated Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight title match.
– He started grabbing me by my arms and physically moved me to where he wanted me to go.
According to Lemus, Ruiz also “jokingly” started hitting him on the hands and feet. The punches turned into bruises, which Lemus took pictures of in his application.
Lemus said in his documents that Ruiz bought several guns in Las Vegas earlier this year. Ruiz wanted to show Lemus the firearms he had purchased, but he refused. After that, Ruiz aimed an AK-47 at Lemu’s face.
– He told me to keep my hood up and pointed out that the guns are not loaded and mocked me for being so dramatic, Lemus describes in the documents according to TMZ.
Lemus also claimed that Ruiz sexually abused her several times in February of this year.
Ruiz’s answer
Ruiz vehemently denies all the accusations and claims that Lemus was violent during the relationship. Ruiz himself filed his response to Lemus’ documents with the court on Thursday.
According to the boxer, Lemus stabbed him in February 2020. Ruiz said in his documents that a few months later, Lemus would have come to his hotel room with a loaded handgun. According to Ruiz, Lemus hit one of the boxer’s friends in the head with a gun.
According to Ruiz, Lemus also slapped and punched him several times. She also claimed that Lemus stole $250,000 worth of jewelry from her in March.
– I never physically responded to Julia’s attacks, says Ruiz.
Ruiz is rumored to be one of Tyson Fury’s possible next opponents. He and Lemus were together between 2015 and 2022.
