The heavyweight summit between the two boxing superstars Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk threatens to burst. The camps of the two world champions still cannot agree on a division of the fight exchange. The Ukrainian has now submitted a creative and quite curious proposal to the “Gypsy King” to solve the problem. But Fury refused.
Negotiations for a major title unification fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are still at a standstill. Although the parties regularly speak to each other behind the scenes, no real progress is made in the discussions.
The biggest point of contention on the way to the mega-fight is still the division of the multi-million dollar exchange. Since the fight would most likely take place in England, Fury demands more than “just” 50 percent. How much larger his share should be in the end is not clear. Usyk’s team has repeatedly emphasized that they do not want to get involved.
In order to get things moving in the negotiations, the Ukrainian side made a new offer to the “Gypsy King” just a few days ago. “We made it clear to him that we were ready to accept a split of 60:40. But the winner gets 60 percent,” Usyk promoter Alex Krassyuk reported on “talkSPORT” about the Ukrainian’s unusual suggestion.
Asked if Fury turned down that offer, the promoter said: “Exactly it is.” Fury’s behavior throughout the matter is that of a fighter who doesn’t want the fight. “In such a case, a fighter usually asks for something impossible so that the fight can’t take place,” Krassyuk said.
In this case, however, he is still optimistic that the duel can still rise. “Maybe Tyson just isn’t ready yet. Maybe he’s not ready mentally, maybe it’s not ready physically. I don’t know and I don’t care. We still want the fight to happen. But if he doesn’t want it , we can’t force him,” said the promoter.
For Usyk’s representatives, there is no question who is responsible for the impasse. “We had originally agreed on a 50:50 split. But then Tyson suddenly asked for more money,” he blamed the “Gypsy King”. “We’re happy to share the money. If he’s not, then so be it.”
