boxing, heavyweight | Usyk vs. Joshua not in Saudi Arabia after all? Several countries have expressed interest

Although there is an offer of 109 million euros from Saudi Arabia, the rematch between heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua does not necessarily take place in the desert state. Other venues are still up for discussion.

Just this week, the “Daily Mail” wanted to know exclusively that Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua will meet in Saudi Arabia on June 25 for the eagerly awaited re-match in the ring. With 109 million euros, the trip to the desert should be sweetened for the two superstars. So far, neither Usyk nor Joshua have confirmed.

Saudi Arabia is under discussion, Usyk promoter Alexander Krassyuk admitted to “Sky Sports”, but he did not want to speak of a fixed agreement yet: “Many things now depend on how quickly we put the ink to paper.”

Preparations for the mega-fight were interrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Usyk decided to defend his homeland against the invaders and spent several weeks near Kyiv. Only a few days ago, thanks to a special permit, he traveled to devote himself to the rematch against Joshua.

“The good thing is that Usyk is already in Europe to start his preparation,” said Krassyuk.

“AJ” promoter Eddie Hearn also confirmed an ongoing process with a view to the venue, which is far from over. “Nothing has been decided yet. There is interest from home [Großbritannien]Saudi Arabia, other countries in the Middle East and the United States,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

The two promoters have not yet wanted to confirm or deny whether the fight will take place on June 25, as reported.
