Oleksandr Usyk is and remains the king in boxing weight. After his impressive victory against Daniel Dubois, he declared background to his knockout punch.
The fifth round was too much for Daniel Dubois. The challenger had already had to take some strokes from Oleksandr Usyk in the World Cup fight at London, followed by a brutal combination that completely snapped out the lights during the British.
The Ukrainian stretched the 27-year-old with a left hook. It was the decision. Usyk again crowned himself the undisputed world champion of all important world associations. The IBF heavyweight title from Dubois now belongs again. (Usyk had only had to give him up anyway, because last year he preferred to fight Tyson Fury again than to accept the compulsory challenge).
At the press conference after the fight, he spoke about his left hammer. Usyk even gave him a name.
“It’s a blow called Ivan. Yes, left hook. The hook is like that – from here Ivan is,” said Usyk with a grin. He carried out the hook on the podium with his left arm. “This is a Ukrainian name. Ivan is a big guy who lives in a village and works on a farm. A big guy, like a cosak. And what is your name? My name is Ivan. This is a tough blow,” continues USYK. The Ukrainian obviously enjoyed explaining the blow.
Together with his team, he worked on this combination for a long time. They learned from the first fight two years ago, he said.
Usyk can sit back back first
What follows for the world champion?
“I live with my team, with 14 people in a house. Only one face every day. Now I want to return home, now I would like to make a decision what will come next. I’ll continue to box, I’ll continue to train, but I can’t say now who is my next opponent.” said Usyk.
In addition to the German Git Kabayel, Joseph Parker, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury also have hope for a fight against USYK. For Fury it would be the third fight against the Ukrainian. He put himself in position on social media.
Usyk can look at all of this in peace and pack up “Ivan” again.
