Oleksandr Usyk made a friendly and bizarre appearance at the second press conference for his World Championship fight on August 26th against Daniel Dubois. At the face off with the Englishman, the Ukrainian heavyweight champion raped in front of his puzzled rival and the amazed journalists – later he blasphemed about Tyson Fury and his next fight.
In London, Usyk presented himself as usual in a good mood and polite. Daniel Dubois is a good boxer, he has “respect” for his challenger and his team. But he doesn’t want to talk much, said the world champion of the WBA, WBO and IBF associations. Only this much: “I’m really hungry, I’m hungry.” The PK visitors had a great time.
Boxing: Fight between Usyk and Fury “just has to come”
Usyk later commented on rival world champion Tyson Fury. A fight of the undefeated champions had burst in the spring. Usyk still has the “Gypsy King” in the back of his mind.
“He’s beautiful, he’s funny,” the 36-year-old quipped. “I don’t think about him at all, I just have to meet him in the ring. I don’t give a damn about the belt anymore. I need him – him. The WBC title is just a little extra motivation, but the people, the fans gotta see us fight.” The fight between him and the Briton is a duel that boxing fans will still be talking about “in 20, 30, 40 years”. “We just have to fight.”
But Fury has other plans for now. The 2.06 meter giant meets ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou in an exhibition match on October 28. Usyk thinks little of the million dollar spectacle in Saudi Arabia. “This fight is a great opportunity for Francis Ngannou, definitely not Tyson Fury. Isn’t it weird that he’s not boxing a top 10 contender but someone who has never boxed before?”
When asked if Fury was afraid of a fight against him, Usyk didn’t hesitate for long. “Yes, of course! Of course! Greedy Belly (greedy belly, ed.) scared of me.”
