The German boxing professional Abass Baraou has crowned an interim world champion in the half -medium weight.
In the American Orlando, the 30-year-old won in the fight for the title of the WBA association after twelve laps and a unanimous decision by the referees with 117: 110, 116: 111 and 115: 112 against the Yoenis Tellez, which is unbeaten before.
Baraou, who commutes between Oberhausen and Berlin, showed up after the success. “I waited for so long for this moment and I am just grateful that I won this belt,” the native of Oberhausen was quoted in a press release.
“This is a very emotional moment for me. I always worked hard, I always believed in myself,” added the boxer from the Aquarius team (formerly Sauerland).
As several media reported, the actual WBA title carrier Terence Crawford resigns his belt because it is expected to change the weight class.
So Baraou, who won 17 fights and lost one, would automatically world champion. The interim title is a temporary solution if a boxer cannot temporarily defend the actual World Cup belt for various reasons.
In 2024, the professional had secured the European Championship title and made the successful title defense almost three months later.
