Boxing association wants to skip events with Russians

The athletes of the German Boxing Association (DBV) will not take part in events with Russian or Belarusian athletes in the future.

“There is a clear decree from the federal government that there is no funding for associations that take part in events where Russians and Belarusians are,” said DBV sports director Michael Müller on Thursday in an interview with the “ARD-Sportschau”: ” That’s why we can’t take part in it.”

According to Müller, staying away from such events is a “recommendation of the German Olympic Sports Association, for political and moral reasons. We fully support that.”

Due to the DBV’s decision, no German boxers will probably start at the upcoming U19 World Championships in Alicante (November 13th to 27th). “If the confirmation comes that Russians are taking part, we will not fly,” said Müller.
