The video soon went viral: the 24-year-old South African lightweight after rushing to the hospital and induced coma didn’t make it
South African lightweight Simiso Buthelezi has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage following a weekend boxing match in Durban. The 24-year-old was facing fellow countryman Siphesihle Mntungwa for the WBF All Africa Lightweight title on Sunday, but the 10-round distance match was stopped by the referee after Buthelezi began punching an invisible opponent. Footage of the fight showing Mntungwa falling on the ropes and then, after the fight resumed, advancing to a corner firing blows into the void, quickly went viral, attracting numerous comments and wry, but utterly out of place, comments.
