The 35-year-old Ukrainian Usyk won the previous title fight in London from the British title holder last year, after which it soon became clear that a revenge would follow. In the duel in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, the titles of the four associations WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO are at stake.
Usyk, who is still unbeaten in nineteen matches as a professional boxer, won on points in September. The 32-year-old Joshua suffered two defeats in 26 professional matches and won 22 times by knockout. The Briton had contractually stipulated that he was entitled to a revenge party within the foreseeable future. Doubts arose after Usyk returned to his homeland because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the end of February.
