Bouterse starts 20 years in prison on Friday

Former Surinamese president and army leader Desi Bouterse (78) must report to a prison on Friday to serve his twenty-year prison sentence. He received that sentence after a trial lasting more than sixteen years, for his role in the murder of fifteen political opponents in December 1982. Four co-convicts, who must each serve fifteen years, were also summoned by the Public Prosecution Service to go to prison on Friday. .
