The Gieterstraat between Rolde and Andere is again free of dangerous bumps and subsidence. Traffic can now use the road surface without bouncing up and down.
The road was full of bumps due to tree roots and peat oxidation, which led to dangerous situations. The road was closed for three months to allow repairs.
The municipality of Aa en Hunze used a relatively new technique to repair the road. The top layer of the road has been removed and holes have been drilled in the bottom layer in places where the road surface had sagged. These holes are then filled with gravel.
The more than three hundred oak trees along the road were largely able to remain standing thanks to the new repair method. Some trees had to be cut down because they were sick.
The municipality will also use the same method to repair the road between Nieuwediep and Gieterveen.
