Bought land at Veenhuizer school, signals green for housing construction

With the purchase of the land on which De Vlinderhof primary school stood, housing in the heart of Veenhuizen seems to be one step closer. The Noordenveld municipal council does not seem to have any objections to the purchase of the land.

The building of De Vlinderhof was already owned by the municipality, but the land on which the school stood was not. That land belongs to De Nieuwe Rentmeester, the consortium that took over more than eighty buildings in Veenhuizen in 2021.

“The plot of De Vlinderhof has now been classified by De Nieuwe Rentmeester as ‘not necessary’ for the ensemble,” says councilor Jos Darwinkel (Municipal Interests). “That is why we can now buy the land and prepare for demolition.”

The plot of De Vlinderhof – together with a piece of land opposite it – must be transformed into a housing location. If it is up to the municipality, both young and old people will soon be able to go there. “It concerns a mix of owner-occupied and rental properties,” says Darwinkel. A project developer for the owner-occupied homes has yet to be found, he said. Actium is working on the supply of rental properties.

New housing plans should stimulate traffic flow in Veenhuizen. “That is important for a small center like Veenhuizen,” says Darwinkel. “The village is desperate for homes.”

The building of the former De Vlinderhof primary school must be demolished in October. Money has already been made available by the municipal council for this demolition.
