Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Grepe track to second round in Doha, Gijs Brouwer wins in Marseille | Tennis

Botic van de Zandschulp has reached the second round of the ATP tournament in Doha without too many problems. The eighth seeded Veenendaler, who needed a medical time-out at the end of the second set due to thigh complaints, settled in two sets with Belarusian Ilya Ivashka: 6-2, 7-5. Tallon Greek track also reached the second round. He beat Quentin Halys in three sets.

Van de Zandschulp had no chance in Rotterdam last week in the second round of the ABN AMRO Open against later tournament winner Daniil Medvedev. He lost to the Russian in straight sets. Today in Doha things went a lot better for Van de Zandschulp, who actually never got into trouble against the number 79 in the world.

Van de Zandschulp, 34th in the ATP ranking, only had to deal with a muscle injury in the upper leg in the final phase, but according to the tennis player from Veenendaal, these are after-effects of an earlier injury at the beginning of January. ,,That sometimes plays up after a set and a half, but it’s not something to worry about. I even have the idea that things are getting better and better.”

Gijs Brouwer in Marseilles

In Marseille, Gijs Brouwer fought his way to the second round. The number 116 in the world beat the Swede Elias Ymer, who is more than fifty places lower, in three sets. It became 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Brouwer, who came out of the qualifying tournament at the ATP tournament in France, caused a sensation in Rotterdam last week, where he reached the last eight on a wild card. In the quarter finals he was eliminated on Friday evening by Tallon Greek track. Brouwer received a wild card from tournament director Richard Krajicek at the last minute in Ahoy.

In the second round, Brouwer will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who reached the semi-finals in Rotterdam.
