Short-term help with roster changes
Will Borussia Dortmund’s reservist Giovanni Reyna (20) help in the short term with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s squad? A report of the “Rheinische Post“ suggests that those responsible for the “foals” around manager Roland Virkus are looking into the possibility of a loan. However, no concrete steps appear to have been taken. According to the newspaper, the rumor was not completely out of thin air.

It is obvious that such a deal could make sense. Reyna was only a reserve player in Dortmund for the entire past season, only made four starts, but was often dangerous in goals. Among the most efficient Bundesliga pros in front of goal who scored at least five goals, only Bayern Munich’s Joker Mathys Tel (5 goals in 396 minutes) needed less playing time than Reyna (7 goals in 605 minutes). The American snapped every 86 minutes. On the other hand, the Gladbachers have already lost the four most successful goalscorers of the last season.
After the rumor appeared, the TM community was initially reluctant to see the few concrete indications that a change was actually possible. Not a few TM users see the sense in a loan. “On loan, why not?” asks “DrBall”, who also has an eye on BVB’s plans. “He still has a year left on his contract in the summer of 2024, which means you could look at the development at Gladbach and sell it by putting him in Gladbach’s shop window, or give him the chance to assert himself at BVB. It’s not easy for him under Terzic and Nmecha doesn’t make the competition any less.”
Would very much welcome the loan, but then with a VVL for a year. It would certainly be best for him to be able to play consistently for a season. In a year, with Reus, there will be at least one player less than the competition and Reyna may be able to take on more responsibility and his body might be more ready for permanent stress…
Reyna’s market value had fallen by 10 million euros over the course of the season due to the low playing time. The second most valuable American footballer was at a lower level than the currently estimated 25 million euros three years ago.

A loan to the “foals” could offer an upswing in such a way that there is an urgent need for action in almost all areas before the defense – and Reyna was correspondingly flexible in Dortmund. “Borrowing a player like Reyna, who is able to become a difference player directly, would actually be a good move,” says community member “Arekon96”. “Precisely because he can play both in midfield and on the wings, you would directly increase the quality of the squad without much risk.”
