Ginter decision “stands”
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s new sports director Roland Virkus has backed head coach Adi Hütter after the recent 6-0 defeat in Dortmund. “He is very focused, open, straightforward, we have a very good exchange with each other,” Virkus said in a media round. “He’s been through a lot of different situations in his career. He became champion, but he has also gone through difficult phases, for example at Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Virkus. The 55-year-old is the successor to sports director Max Eberl at the Lower Rhine Bundesliga club.

The situation at Borussia was “not pleasant”, Virkus admitted before Gladbach’s key games against four Bundesliga teams from the lower half of the table. “We face the situation and will get out of it,” said the native of Mönchengladbach. “Many are currently discussing the question: Can Gladbach fight against relegation? I say yes! I am firmly convinced that the team can fight relegation.”

In order to find his way out of the crisis, Virkus also called on experienced professionals such as Matthias Ginter (28) and Florian Neuhaus (24). “There are also situations where, as a player, you don’t have to look out to the coach, but solve them yourself on the pitch,” demanded the head of sports at Gladbach, who are currently 13th in the table. just four points ahead of relegation rank 16.
Contracts with Borussia Mönchengladbach also valid for the 2nd division
In the worst-case scenario, Gladbach would probably face a major upheaval next summer, but would also have everything in their own hands in the lower house. Again “table football“ reported, all player contracts are also valid for the 2nd division. In the event of relegation, no Gladbach professional could leave Borussia free of charge.
Virkus rejected speculation that Ginter’s situation had changed due to Eberl’s departure and that there could still be an offer for an extension. “Matze made his decision and communicated it clearly – and so did we as a club. The decision is made,” Eberl’s successor once again confirmed Ginter’s free transfer at the end of the season.
