After massive criticism
Despite the public criticism of his situation, Marvin Friedrich is still part of the Borussia Mönchengladbach squad. “Of course I’m planning with Marvin. I have absolutely no problem with the interview statements and I don’t see them as disrespectful,” said coach Daniel Farke before the “foals” game on Saturday (6:30 p.m. / Sky) at Eintracht Frankfurt.
“I’ve said many times that I think he’s a really good football player and a top character. I want my players who aren’t in the starting XI to be dissatisfied,” added Farke, referring to the 27-year-old’s high number of appearances: “He was available for 26 match days, 26 of them in the squad. He started ten times and made 16 appearances. That’s a record from a really important player.”
Nevertheless, the coach thinks the central defender’s interim banishment to the bench is understandable: “We conceded 19 goals in ten games with Marvin Friedrich in the starting line-up. That’s 1.9 goals conceded on average. We conceded significantly fewer goals in the games he didn’t play in.”

Gladbach coach Farke: Friedrich “is now responsible for delivering”
Farke also emphasized: “He has now made his point and leaned out of the window. Now he’s responsible for delivering in training and in games.” Under the 46-year-old, Ko Itakura (26) and Nico Elvedi (26) are currently seeded in the defensive center. The central defender had complained massively about this in “Sport Bild”. “I’m absolutely dissatisfied with the situation and feel zero point zero trust,” said Friedrich, who came from Union Berlin last winter for 5.5 million euros and has a contract with Borussia until 2026. “Something has to change for me. It can not go on like this.”
The “Picture” reported after the massive criticism with reference to an inquiry at Gladbach from a money road that flourishes the legal foot whose market value has shrunk from 10 million to 5 million euros since the transfer. So far there has been no confirmation from the club. Sports director Roland Virkus reprimanded Friedrich for his public criticism on Thursday. “Such things should actually be discussed internally,” Virkus was quoted as saying in an interview with the club. “And we as a club will stick to this agreement and also clarify the issue internally with the player.”
