Back in top form at Olympiakos
When South Korea starts the World Cup in Qatar against Uruguay on Thursday at 2 p.m., very interested eyes from Germany will also follow the action closely. As “Sports24“ reported from Greece, In-beom Hwang (26) from Olympiakos Piraeus is in the focus of several Bundesliga clubs – again.
The central midfielder has been associated with German clubs for years. Before leaving Rubin Kazan from Russia in the direction of Piraeus, both French and German teams are said to have signaled interest, Hwang was traded at FC Augsburg, for example. Since then, the 37-time national player has been directly involved in three goals in 16 games for Olympiakos.

And now two old acquaintances should have Hwang in focus. According to the report, Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was already interested in 2018, sent scouts to several games of the Greek record champions. Eintracht Frankfurt, already associated with Hwang in 2020, is also closely monitoring developments. The report also names SC Freiburg and TSG Hoffenheim, but only as a possible option for the coming summer.
The midfielder returned to his homeland to FC Seoul at the beginning of the year after Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine before moving to Olympiakos. “Hwang, along with Jae-sung Lee from Mainz, is one of the creative minds in coach Paulo Bento’s squad and is in great demand with his ability to dictate the pace. After a complicated year with different loan models and a minor injury situation, Hwang is back in top form like in Russia and finally has the opportunity to present his talent and skills on the world stage,” says Tiberius Radziejewski, Area Manager Asia at Transfermarkt, about Hwang, who won the gold medal at the Asian Games with South Korea in 2018 and was thereby exempted from compulsory military service.
