Düsseldorf (dpa) – After the first personnel decisions for the coming summer, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sports director Max Eberl is combative.
“We don’t fall into shock and that’s why it won’t knock the club out of its foundations. Instead, we now have clarity and we can work with that clarity,” said the 48-year-old TV broadcaster Sky. After the announced departures of national player Matthias Ginter and Denis Zakaria next summer, the sports director does not rule out further separations.
“If there is an outstanding offer for any player, then we have to sit down and decide. But the January market is not exactly the most productive. The summer was already very complicated and January is not exactly better,” said Eberl. A premature change from Ginter or Zakaria in winter is also not unthinkable, that would at least bring in a small transfer fee.
The club needs transfer income for newcomers. “We now have decisions about the budget for the new season, what we have free and what is still available,” said Eberl. “We have ideas in our heads that we already had in the summer. And now you have to see what is actually in the cash register in order to be able to spend something,” explained Gladbach’s sports director.
