Borussia Mönchengladbach: Daniel Farke criticizes Nathan Ngoumou

At Gladbach mostly behind

Nathan Ngoumou (23) was the most expensive signing at Borussia Mönchengladbach last summer. The Bundesliga club paid 8 million euros to FC Toulouse, but the attacker has not yet been able to assert himself. Now coach Daniel Farke has made an announcement.

Since his arrival, Ngoumou has made 13 appearances in 21 possible games in all competitions, starting four times and not appearing as a substitute in the last two games against Leipzig (0-3) and Freiburg (0-0). “It’s about showing yourself in training and earning every effort,” Farke said on Wednesday (quoted via “table football‘) at a press conference. He continued: “There were phases where we had the feeling that he was on a really good path. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to implement that in the games. Recently we had the feeling that he didn’t always reach his performance limit in training.”

The 46-year-old reported on talks with Ngoumou. The junior national player was told “that he has to show himself more and be more present”. In the current training week he is presenting himself “really well”, said Farke and added: “But even then it’s always about consistency. One or two good training sessions are not enough to get his chance. You have to prove consistency.” That is “the order for Nathan in the next few weeks”. He does not give away missions, the coach emphasized. Ngoumou, whose contract runs until 2027, primarily has Jonas Hofmann (30) and Alassane Plea (30) in front of him on the offensive flanks, who are among the most frequently used players in the squad.
