Contradiction to “Sky” report
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s board member Rainer Bonhof has denied an alleged renewed request from goalkeeper Yann Sommer for release to FC Bayern Munich. “I don’t know anything about that, there’s nothing to it. Our sports director and our coach have made clear statements,” Bonhof told the German Press Agency.

The TV station “sky“ had previously reported that Sommer personally asked Bonhof for approval on Sunday morning. “Yann Sommer is a thoroughly down-to-earth guy and absolutely professional. He doesn’t go that route,” said Borussia’s vice-president. After coach Daniel Farke, sporting director Roland Virkus had already clearly positioned himself on Saturday and put a stop to the goalkeeper’s immediate desire to switch to the German record champions. “We will not give up Yann Sommer. We told Bayern that too,” Virkus told the Rheinische Post.
After the injury to national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, FC Bayern had expressed interest in signing Sommer immediately. The Swiss player’s contract in Mönchengladbach expires on June 30th. Trainer Julian Nagelsmann said on Sunday with a view to the Virkus statement: “I didn’t read the headlines and I fainted. I think it’s part of the job that you put on a poker face in that area.” Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was also working “generally at full speed” on a solution in Qatar, reported Nagelsmann: “We’re looking at what’s going on in the transfer market.”
