Borger-Odoorn pulls out: 1.4 million extra for new Esdal College

The municipal council of Borger-Odoorn had no other choice. Tonight, all parties agreed to make an additional 1.4 million euros available for the new construction of the Esdal College in Borger, because if the council had not done so, it could possibly mean that Esdal will stop the construction of the new school. would put.

During the council meeting on June 23, alderman Jeroen Hartsuiker (VVD) already said that it was coming. The tender for the new Esdal College in Borger was considerably higher (35 percent) than estimated. The cost of the construction of the school was calculated at 4.8 million euros, but the tender amounts to no less than 6.5 million. The total additional costs therefore amount to more than 1.6 million.

According to Hartsuiker, this is partly due to the sharp rise in construction costs over the past two and a half years. This cost increase has financial consequences for the municipality. Because the agreement is that the municipality will bear 85 percent of the construction costs and the Esdal College 15 percent, Borger-Odoorn has to pay more than 1.4 million extra for the school.

The new secondary school should be completed in the autumn of 2023.
