L‘eleventh edition of BookCity Milanothe event dedicated to books and reading, is about to begin and promises a very busy calendar of events. This year’s theme is everything that is considered hybrid. Not to give a definition to this concept, also because BookCity by nature escapes traditional labels, but to explore it. The theme of BookCity 2022specifically it is “The hybrid life”.
Work has become a hybrid, between home and office. Life is hybrid, between on and offline. Hybrids are identity and genres. Hybrid are still cultures and communication. Hybrid is also this edition of BookCity, thanks to BookCity Papersthe initiative born during the lockdown that allows international authors to participate in the event through a digital format. On Youtube channel It is on Facebook profile by BookCity Milano you can attend a series of dialogues with foreign authors, interviewed by personalities of Italian writing, publishing and culture.
Let’s start Wednesday 9 November at 18.30with dialogue See the invisiblewhose protagonist will be the American writer Jason Mott, until Tuesday, November 15th with two appointments: at 18.30 on European Witch Award 2021 Georgi Gospodinov will be the protagonist of the dialogue Remember and forgettogether with the writer Andrea Bajani, and at 7.15 pm the last appointment: Economics of resiliencea lecture by Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economics Trends in Washington.
The numbers of BookCity Milano
BookCity numbers are impressive: 3000 authors and authors, 193 publishers And 860 school classes for a schedule of 1350 eventswhich will take place in 290 different places, divided between event spaces, bookshops and libraries throughout the city of Milan. This year BookCity involves the entire book supply chain, from writers to cartoonists. From large and small publishers, to essayists, illustrators, bloggers, but also readers, teachers and students. An inclusive event as it has always been in its character.
The main events of BookCity Milano 2022
The opening event will be held on November 16th at 8pm at the Dal Verme Theater, with the event “Investigating the human soul”. The evening will feature the Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgård, known for the success of his autobiographical works, which will receive the Seal of the city from Mayor Giuseppe Sala and will be interviewed by the writer and literary critic Emanuele Treviwinner of the 2021 Strega Prize. The winner of the 2023 Strega Prize will also be present Melania Mazzucco.
BookCity for schools
BookCity 2022 also marks the 10th anniversary of BookCity for schools that to celebrate inaugurates a new project: BookCity University, in which 12 universities and academies in Milan participate. The meetings will reflect on the theme of the year according to the specializations of each institution, deepening the hybrid life from an academic point of view.
BookCity for the social
There are also many realities that will participate in BookCity for the Social, which involves several prisons in Milan and the hinterland, but also the Niguarda Hospital, San Carlo Borromeo, Casa Jannacci, Casa della Carità, Centro Ronda, Barrio’s and the Amici del Trivulzio Foundation. These bodies will organize various meetings on the theme of the year and theatrical and musical performances.
BookCity for the youngest
There are also many events dedicated to young people such as “A Sunday morning to read together”. A live reading organized in collaboration with ilLibraio.it and designed for TikTokers who are passionate about reading. The appointment is Sunday 20 November at the Enzo Baldoni Auditorium at 10.00. The two young women booktokers Megi Bulla@labibliotecadidaphne, and Valentina Ghetti@ book.addicted, will be the protagonists of a dialogue moderated by Jolanda Di Virgilio, editor of ilLibraio.it and author, together with Sara Canfailla, of the book This is not what I dreamed of as a child. Afterwards there will be a time dedicated to silent and collective reading.
BookCity for rights
There Feltrinelli Foundation turns the spotlight on Rights. Sunday November 20 at 14.00 the meeting is scheduled Me, transgender and Catholic. T.he will have LGBTQ + battles with the former priest and activist Francesco Lepore, Luciano Moia And Vladimir Luxuria.

The events of the thematic pole “The Professions of the Book”
The events of the thematic pole The Trades of the Book have the objective of promoting policies for the dissemination of Italian books, culture and authors and carrying out initiatives and information campaigns to raise awareness and encourage young people to read.
We point out in particular:
-Friday 18 November at 11.00 – Andrea Cangini and other speakers will discuss reading on paper and handwriting as an intangible cultural heritage of Humanity, during the meeting promoted by the Federation of Paper and Graphics and Comieco at the Corriere della Sera Foundation.
-Friday 18 November at 4.30 pm – The new challenges for reading and creativity with Marino Sinibaldi, Sabrina Perucca, Tito Faraci And Claudio Sciarrone, at the Brera International Centerin collaboration with Romics.
-Saturday November 19th at 6.30pm – Corriere della Sera Foundation And Pirelli Foundation present A story to the future. Business stories between research, innovation and culture. A conversation between Antonio Calabrò, Ernesto Ferrero and Piergaetano Marchetti starting from the book A story to the future. Pirelli 150 years of industry, innovation, culture, published by Marsilio and edited by the Pirelli Foundation. It will be an opportunity to focus on business culture, innovation and look to the future, reading some excerpts from the volume, alla Corriere della Sera Foundation.
IO Donna Literary Award to BookCity
Also iO Donna will be present at BookCity with his literary prize “Heroines of today”. The appointment is for Friday 18 November, at the Grand Hotel et de Milan in via Manzoni 29, at 6.30 pm. The award is dedicated to female characters who, during the year, have particularly distinguished themselves. A small but strong contribution of iO Donna to the heroines of the books. Sport in verse
Theatrical reading of poems from the last book of Franco Arminio, Athletes. Franco Arminio, one of the most beloved contemporary Italian poets, collects his verses dedicated to the world of sport and its protagonists in Atleti. Reading will be held Friday 18 November at 8 pm at the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo Da Vinci.
