Book about 100 years of TT in the making: ‘Access to archives that have not been published before’

Publisher Koninklijke Van Gorcum from Assen and the TT Circuit are together making a special jubilee book about the history of the TT. In 2025 it will be exactly one hundred years ago that the first TT was held. And that anniversary calls for a book.

Another race history book? Yes, says director Kor IJszenga of Van Gorcum. “Many books have of course been written about the TT, for example when the event existed for seventy and eighty years. But we think those are very technical books,” he says. “They are very much aimed at people who like to know who won the TT in 1938.”

And so the Asser publishing house wants to take a different approach. “It must be a large and iconic book,” says IJszenga. “80 percent of the book is visual material, 20 percent is text.” The photos in the voluminous table book must therefore tell the story on their own. The book is expected to cost around $70. “It is intended to be a book that has not been made before and will never be made again.”
