Without a club for over a year
Wilfried Bony is back in paid football. More than twelve months since his last engagement and more than eight years after leaving Arnhem, the 33-year-old striker returns to the Eredivisie – of all places to local rivals of ex-club Vitesse, NEC Nijmegen.
After the end of his contract in Saudi Arabia (Ittihad), ex-Man City attacker Bony has been without a club since November 2020. However, according to his own statements, he was “not yet ready to stop playing football”. He had a great time in the Netherlands and therefore decided to take the step. Bony said: “While I realize this is a tricky move for some, I expect to be given a fair chance to present myself positively to our supporters. I will do everything to get fit again as soon as possible so that I can quickly be important for the team.”
