Bono doesn’t like the name U2 and finds most of the band’s songs “a bit embarrassing”

Lately says he doesn’t think much of the U2 name. He also doesn’t like most of his band’s songs. In addition, it does not look any better with his own voice.

“I really don’t like the name,” Bono says on the Awards Chatter podcast, adding, “But lately I was kind of dyslexic. I also didn’t understand that The Beatles is a bad pun. In our minds it was like a spy plane, or a submarine, it was futuristic – but as it turns out, it implies a kind of forbearance. No, I don’t like that name. I still don’t like the name.”

Most of U2’s songs are ‘a bit embarrassing’ for Bono

The U2 frontman also reveals that he only enjoys listening to a few of his own songs: “The most I can listen to is ‘Miss Sarajevo’ with Luciano Pavarotti. But to be honest, I’m a little embarrassed about most of the others.” After a moment’s thought, however, the singer adds, “But I think ‘Vertigo’ is what I’m most proud of. I like how it resonates with fans.”

“I think embarrassment often takes over at U2 and maybe that’s where you should go as an artist, on the edge of shame,” adds the singer.

“That’s when I realized that I don’t have to be a great rock ‘n’ roll singer”

It was only recently, however, that Bono began to enjoy his singing: “It was a big discovery for me when I heard the Ramones and the beautiful sound of Joey Ramones, I realized that I wasn’t a big rock ‘n’ roll musician -must be a singer”.

Meanwhile, the musician also released a list of sixty songs that “saved his life” some time ago. These include songs as diverse as David Bowie’s “Life On Mars” and Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted”.
