Bonez MC and RAF Camora end ‘plastic palm trees’ era with documentary

Bonez MC and RAF Camora are reportedly preparing to release a documentary about their joint Plastic Palms albums. Both shared a first trailer on their Instagram profiles. The Viennese RAF Camora even headlined its story “Coming soon in the cinema!!”. However, nothing concrete is known about when, how and where the documentation will appear.

Plastic palm trees, success and controversy

The “Plastic Palms” are considered one of the most interesting, commercially successful and influential chapters in German rap history. The first part, published in 2016, made a significant contribution to the slowly ebbing dancehall wave in the dominant German rap sound. Both rappers’ over-the-top machismo killed any chance of a masculinity and image reversal within commercially successful German rap for some time. A constant companion of the story has always been far-reaching criticism of the practiced cultural appropriation, the misogynistic texts and the all-encompassing toxicity of this masculinity.

The documentary now promises insights into the creation and production of the albums and the inner workings of the supergroup from Hamburg and Vienna. But there is another dimension to this point in time. The success of German rap not only changes the chart economy, it naturally also increases public interest in the scene.
