Bonds and KLM agree: ground staff will receive extra money

KLM, CNV, FNV and NVLT (the federation for aviation technicians) have agreed on a new collective labor agreement for ground staff. According to the unions, about 12,000 employees will benefit financially. The new collective labor agreement is valid for one year and will take effect retroactively from 1 March 2022.

Wages will increase by 4 percent in total. According to the trade union CNV, the lower wage groups will receive an additional 160 euros per month. The youth scales will disappear and the minimum wage will become 14 euros per hour, a long-cherished wish of the unions, but also political parties such as the PvdA and the SP.

KLM ground staff can now also park for free at Schiphol and the kilometer allowance will go from 9 cents to 19 cents. “We have also made good agreements for structurally reducing the workload. For example, KLM will hire more people on a permanent basis and we will make agreements about matters such as minimum staffing,” says Birte Nelen of FNV.

Working from home during the day, on a Spanish terrace in the evening

Employees with an office function are allowed to work from abroad for a total of 8 weeks per year. Michiel Wallaard of CNV explains: “For example, you can go to La Palma for a month, work during the day and sit on a Spanish terrace in the evening or take a nice walk.”

Wallaard continues: “We are curious how the trial will turn out and whether this is an example for other companies. It could just become an interesting employment condition, with which employers can distinguish themselves in a positive way.”
