AC/DC guitarist Angus Young said that their former singer Bon Scott said before his death in 1980 that Brian Johnson was “unbelievable.” In a conversation with the US radio station “95.5 KLOSYoung reports that the two met before their respective starts at AC/DC, when Bon Scott and his former band “Fraternity” played a concert with Brian Johnson’s old band Geordie.
Young now remembered that Bon Scott once spoke about this encounter with his eventual successor: “Bon told us the story. He said he was listening to Geordie and Brian perform and then he heard this screaming.” Young went on to say that Scott said it sounded to him like the rock ‘n’ roll singer was Little Richard on stage. “This guy was crying and screaming,” Scott said. “And then he said he saw the man lying on the ground. “Bon thought it was great, it was the best act, the best singer he had seen in a long time,” Young said.
After Dave Evans came Bon Scott, then followed Brian Johnson
But what later allegedly turned out was that Brian Johnson was only on the floor because he had suffered a seizure caused by appendicitis. “But Bon thought it was part of the show. He thought this guy was incredible,” Young remembers. Bon Scott joined AC/DC in 1974 after their original singer Dave Evans left the band. After Bon Scott died of alcohol poisoning just six years later, he was replaced by Brian Johnson in 1980. In 2016, Axl Rose from Guns N’Roses also briefly appeared as an AC/DC singer. The reason for this was severe hearing problems, which put Brian Johnson out of action for a while. An ear operation made his comeback possible.
